Natural Ways Of Dealing With Pet Problems Inside Your Home

While most pet owners adore their dog or cat it's tough to ignore the additional chores they require of you, and the challenges they present. However, there are some easy ways to overcome many of these without having to use expensive, and potentially harmful chemicals. Many all natural home remedies exist, and there's a good chance many of them are already in your kitchen, laundry room or under your sink.
Stains and Odors
Whether from housebreaking a new puppy, cleaning up an accident or simply getting the smell of wet dog out of your home, there are a few options available to you. For most odors, using baking soda can help neutralize airborne smells by trapping the particles inside. Alternately, sprinkling a bit of baking soda on carpets or rugs can help draw out the smell as well, even if the stain is otherwise gone.
If baking soda alone won't get the job done, especially with certain tough stains, you can use an ammonia based cleaner to help activate its oxidizing properties. Most blue window cleaners contain some ammonia, and by spraying a stain after covering it with baking soda you'll notice a fizzing action. This is the baking soda and the ammonia reacting with one another, and it can usually drive out most tough stains and odors in a single treatment. Fleas and Other Pests
No matter where you live, fleas, ticks and other small pests can become a nuisance quickly. Repelling them, driving them off your pet and keeping them from getting into the home in the first place just takes a little extra effort and some common household items. For dogs, you can use lemons boiled in water as a flea dip to kill or repel the pests, but cats can have an allergic reaction to citrus, so avoid using this on felines.
For more pervasive treatments, use a brew made from fresh rosemary and spray it around pet bedding. The oils in the rosemary repel and kill fleas and ticks, and the left over herbs can be used to line doorways or other points of entry to keep them out. Finally, you can provide some added protection by replacing your pet's bedding with cedar filled bedding, which also kills or repels most insects.
Keeping your home clean, clearing the air and making everyone's life more pleasant doesn't have to involve expensive chemical agents. Instead, just a little investigation into some natural agents and common household products can do the job, save you money, and simplify the process.
