With warm weather soon approaching, more and more people will turn to their air conditioning systems to coll off. On average, your air conditioning bill is the culprit for 16% on your electricity bill every year. While the temperature in the home will be going down, the electricity rates are likely to go up. if you want to avoid breaking the bank to cool off your home, you will need to employ some useful tips that can help lower your cooling costs. Many of these tips will only take a few minutes, and can help you save hundreds of dollars running your air conditioning system.

Replace Your Old System

If your air conditioning system is experiencing a lot of problems, it may be time to look into replacing it. Older systems are not efficient and can drive your electricity bill up because they work harder to cool off your home. By replacing your older model with a new energy efficient system, you can experience more for your money. Over time, your new model will more than pay for itself. Many energy companies will give you a rebate for purchasing a unit with an energy seal.

Replace Your Filters

One of the easiest and quickest ways to save money on your energy bill is by replacing your filters. The dirtier your filter is, the harder your system would have to work to get the proper air flow through it. By replacing the filters, you can ensure your system is running at optimal efficiency. Your filters should be replaced either monthly or quarterly depending on what type of filters you use. The packaging on the filter should provide information on what type you are using and how often to replace them.

Start Planting

A lot of the heat that comes into your home comes directly from the sunlight through your windows. If you want to keep the heat out and keep your home cooled, you need to keep the curtains closed and your outdoor areas shaded. By planting some tress you can shade the surrounding areas of your home helping to keep out the heat that can get inside. This will help to cool off the home and you won't need to run your air conditioning system nearly as much or as high. This can improve your system's efficiency by up to 10% allowing you to save on running your air conditioning system.
