When you suffer from chronic headaches, you may feel like you simply cannot win. You likely wonder if and when your next headache is going to occur and how much it will affect your life until it goes away again. Dealing with such chronic pain can make your days frustrating and difficult. However, there are several steps that you can take to try to reduce the frequency with which you experience headaches. Get to know some of the ways that you can try to prevent those chronic headaches so that you can breathe a little easier and get back to enjoying your daily life.
Get A Better Pillow
Your pillows can have a major effect on whether or not you suffer from headaches. Poorly designed pillows can cause you neck strain and stiffness and can put undue pressure on your head and the nerves in your face and head. All of these issues can easily trigger a headache.
Get a specialized pillow that is designed to provide optimal support and comfort. And if you travel a great deal, you want to get yourself a better pillow that is also easily transportable as a travel pillow. Know And Avoid Your Scent Triggers
Many people who suffer from chronic headaches have specific triggers that can cause or worsen a headache. Scents and smells are often major triggers for headache sufferers. To effectively reduce the frequency of your headaches, you need to try to identify those triggers.
If you are allergic to grass or certain plants or flowers, for example, the smell of those plants can trigger headaches. While you cannot always avoid these plants outdoors, when you are in your home or office you can do your best to do so. If someone in your neighborhood is mowing their lawn, for example, be sure to close windows and doors. Avoid bringing fresh cut flowers into your home if they may cause you to have an allergy issue.
Other scents and smells that may trigger headaches could be from perfumes, laundry detergents, deodorants, shampoos, and other household items. Go through and try to see if any scent exposures seem to correlate with your headaches and then try to avoid them as much as possible. Alternatively, scents like peppermint and lavender may soothe headaches, and can be used to relieve your headaches if they occur.
